The first step is identifying users and roles. That means looking at teams from a process centric point of view, identifying who will be carrying out the processes, who is involved in the process, and who needs a view of the process you’re mapping.
When building your team, ideally you should minimise the amount of management or supervisory level individuals on the team. This group of people shouldn’t feel inhibited when speaking critically about the process. Your team is going to be self-managing, autonomous and agile. They should look something like the ‘Squad’ concept introduced by Spotify.
While this team should ideally include members that cover all working periods, it’s important that they set times to meet as a whole, rather than one-on-one, as the collaborative nature of team meetings will provide invaluable input through consistent interaction.
